mgr held its latest firmwide update meeting last week with more than 70 partners and staff listening to presentations from some of the partners while enjoying a five-star breakfast. Highlights of the meeting are set out below.
Managing partner Nick Muir opened the meeting by outlining the work being done to arrive at an updated firm’s mission statement. Nick gave the example of working in line with a specific vision by relating this to Elton John’s vision for Watford FC, which he turned into a reality. Nick is a great supporter of the Hornets, so this was an example close to his heart.
After Frankie Sweiry, one of the firm’s finance partners, spoke about the firm’s KPIs, it was over to Tim Sharman to give a presentation about the new technology being developed and researched for the practice. The purpose of the firm’s investment in new technology is to update current practices and maximise efficiencies. It will also enable us to provide more in-depth information for clients and help with client advisory work.
Jill Springbett then talked about the firm’s recent connection with ETL, who are now part of the practice and with whom we are building closer ties. Jill confirmed that the firm is still part of the Allinial Global network, which is particularly strong in the US.
Jill explained that being part of these networks, going to conferences and building connections enables us to advise and deal with clients (both corporate and personal) who have cross-border and different jurisdictional interests. We also have the opportunity of working closely with other member firms in various parts of the world and can therefore offer a seamless, informed and efficient service for our clients.
HR director Helen Parry spoke about new starters with the firm, and technological and software changes in the HR department.
Nigel Walfisz then presented a potted history of one of his clients and their relationship with mgr. This set out details of the client’s activities and business, as well as its successes and challenges, with Nigel pinpointing areas where mgr has helped.
Nick then took to the floor again to pull the threads together. Much of his focus was on ensuring the firm provides the best possible service in the most efficient way for our clients. We must also let our clients and potential clients know what services and support we can offer. In this respect, compliance is exceptionally important, and issues such as Making Tax Digital are vital and demonstrate the changing ways that businesses will need to operate in the future.
mgr has always been known for advising and supporting businesses and individuals with their planning. The emphasis on this type of work is going to grow. The new technology in the practice will mean we will have financial information relating to our clients at our fingertips and, if required, we can use this in the management reporting and planning process accordingly.
Everyone present enjoyed a super breakfast and it was a pleasure to see the whole firm gathered together in as such a positive atmosphere.
Most importantly, everyone left the meeting feeling totally client focused, and enthusiastic and excited about the future of the firm.
Thanks to those who gave presentations and everyone who attended the meeting.
