The Power of Pleasant - Jo Haigh

A smile, a few kind words and an encouraging pat on the back cost the giver little, if anything, yet their value to the receiver is immense.  Even those so called hard-nosed business people who proclaim that they care not a jot what others think of them, can often find such resolution is softened by a well placed comment.

Naturally, such a process works equally well in a non-commercial environment as it does in a business situation.  So why, I wonder, do I encounter so many surly-faced people!  One may ask of course “Is it me” AKA our beloved Sir Terry Wogan.

In fact I don’t believe it is.  I am a glass over flowing girl and find being miserable well, frankly, miserable. It is in truth actually easier to be pleasant.

Of course we all have our bad days, and some worse than others, but even then I have found if you can find something, however small, to feel good about, your dark remorseful persona starts to lift as such a positive temperament can be contagious.

I am rarely disappointed in discovering that my own good and positive attitude to my fellow man creates, even if in the limited vacuum I am working, a happier atmosphere.

The business world, and as a result many individuals lives, have been turned upside down in the last 18 months.

As we start to turn the corner (and we are!) do it with a smile, if only to give your face a work out!
